Sprinkler Fitters U.A. Local 709
Educational Grant Applications accepted May 1, 2026 – July 10, 2026
Four (4) grants of $1,500 dollars each will be awarded to successful applicants to be used for educational expenses. Eligible applicants must be children or grandchildren of active Sprinkler Fitters U.A. Local 709 members that have been in good standing for one year prior to August 1, 2026. Members of Local 709 are not eligible. Eligible applicants should be High School graduates, G.E.D., community college students, university students, or persons attending or planning to attend a trade school this current academic year.
Instructions:
Upload: current proof of enrollment at an accredited community college, a university, or a trade school (i.e.: culinary, computer technician, nurse, etc.) for the current academic year. Eligibility excludes UA Building Trades apprentice programs. Also, include your High School Diploma/GED.
Upload: essay of 1,000 words on the fire sprinkler trade and public safety. “The fire sprinkler trade plays a critical role in protecting lives, property and first responders. In your essay, discuss why careers in the fire sprinkler industry, specifically with Sprinkler Fitters UA Local 709 are essential to public safety. How do apprenticeship programs and union training create reliable, skilled professionals for the future?”
**To ensure impartial judging, upload two (2) versions of your essay: one with your name included on the cover page and one without. The essay itself should not reference the names of any 709 members.
Winners will receive notification via e-mail in September. If you are among the winners, you will be awarded a check at our October Union Meeting held at the Local 709 hall, or we can arrange to send your check by mail. Typically, union meetings occur on the first Monday of each month.
